Albert King ~ Rumba Blues ~ Steve Trovato Page Four

You could spend hours just copying these two guys for fun! Steve tells us that rhythm is of paramount importance in this style. Where you stop and start the licks. Its not what you play its how you play it.

Steve teaches us a bit about counting time. He counts us a couple of bars and remarks that Alberts' solo work was sparse and that less was more. We talk vibrato techniques and many nuances of Alberts oeuvre like starting on beat two.

So which Albert King Lesson? This is Steve Trovato one is great but so is Andy Aledort's Hal Leonard one. There you get songs. Here you get one song and great information. Very tough call! If you want to learn the blues from the ground up check out Steve Trovato's American Blues in 6 weeks and Andy Aledort's Beginning Electric Guitar. Another value packed lesson is Shun Kikuta's Blues Guitar!

Before you buy any of this get yourself an excellent comprehensive guitar reference book like Musicians Institutes: Rhythm Guitar The Complete Guide.

Bone up then you can come back here take names and kick butt and know what you are doing or at least where to go to learn more guitar mechanics.

I have an Albert King CD that I play along to. Albert was a Band Leader not just a guitar player and he sung. Worship him.
